How pivot points are calculated

The pivot (P) is the average of the previous session's high, low and close. Classic levels add and subtract the session's range around it; Fibonacci levels use 38.2%, 61.8% and 100% of the range; Camarilla levels are set from the close using fractions of the range. Many traders watch these as reference prices for the next session. They are arithmetic on yesterday's prices and say nothing about where the index will trade.

Frequently asked questions

How is the NIFTY pivot point calculated?

Pivot = (previous high + previous low + previous close) ÷ 3. Classic R1 = 2 × pivot − low, S1 = 2 × pivot − high, R2 = pivot + (high − low), S2 = pivot − (high − low).

Which session are these pivots for?

They use the last session's high, low and close, so they apply to the next trading session.

What is the difference between classic, Fibonacci and Camarilla pivots?

All start from the previous session's prices. Classic uses the full range, Fibonacci uses 38.2%, 61.8% and 100% of it, and Camarilla places tighter levels around the close.

When are the pivot points updated?

Every trading evening after the close, ready for the next session.
